The Indian educational system after Class 10 is divided into three main streams: Commerce, Science (PCM- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / PCB- Physics, Chemistry, Biology), and Arts/ Humanities. 

Each stream caters to specific career options ranging from engineering and medicine in Science to accounting and finance in Commerce and journalism and literature in Arts. Let me explain in detail:

Science (PCM/PCB)

In the Science stream, students generally prefer Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science. Students with an aptitude for science will benefit from this program. Some common career options with this are:

  1. B.Tech/ B.E: Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics, and Chemical- There are so many specializations that you are interested in.
  1. MBBS/ BDS: Medicine is the most noble profession. If you want to be a Cardiologist, Oncologist, or Neurologist, go with PCM. But if you want to be a doctor specializing in Pediatrics, General Medicine, Psychiatry, or Surgery, take PCB as a core subject in 10+2.
  1. Well, there are other professions with PCB like nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary science. 
  1. Biotechnology/ Biochemistry: It is a rapidly growing technological field along with biology, research for genetic engineering, and pharmaceuticals.
  1. Anatomy/ Astrophysics: If you have a sharp mind and want to go into the research field whether it’s NASA or any other organization PCM is the way.

Commerce

In Commerce, you can study subjects like Accounting, Economics, Business Studies and Mathematics. It is a gateway for students who wish to pursue careers in:

  1. Business Administration: BBA and MBA are the most preferred streams after completing 12th to gain expertise in management, marketing, banking, finance, and human resources for various leadership roles in white-collar companies.
  1. Accounting & Finance: To become an analyst, investment banker, or stock broker, finance should be your primary subject. The accounting profession leads to becoming a Chartered Accountant CA or Certified Public Accountant CPA. 
  1. Marketing: Branding is the most tough job and if you are ready to take up the challenge of sales and marketing, it will come with PG in marketing.
  1. Management: Lead teams, manage resources, and drive organizational success in sectors like retail, hospitality, and manufacturing companies.

Artificial Intelligence has already made a buzz and we know it is the new era. Similarly, machine learning helps in tasks like automation, data analysis, and decision-making.
  1. Data Science and Analytics: Data scientists jobs are popular these days. Learn massive data analysis, extract insights, and solve complex business issues in big organizations.

1. Which stream will get me a high salary after completing the 12th Boards?

This is a tricky question as you can get any stream for high-paying jobs after the 12th. Generally, PCM is considered for high salary packages after completing engineering. But, if you have that X factor, any stream will lead you to a high-profile job.

2. Which job has high salaries?

India is very lucrative when it comes to salaries but jobs like CA, IT, Investment bankers, Medical professionals, data scientists, machine learning experience, product managers, foreign traders, stock exchange marketers export managers, etc., usually have high-paying jobs.

3. How to know what stream to go for after 12th completion?

Many students struggle to know what to do? In this condition you can take self assessments tests- Aptitude Test.
